Did you know...
…that BKK EWE has found a cost-effective and reliable partner in BarmeniaGothaer for its private supplemental insurance.
If you are planning a vacation abroad, we strongly recommend that you purchase additional international travel health insurance.
This coverage protects you against significant financial risks that may not be covered at all—or only partially—by your statutory health insurance (GKV).
1. No repatriation to Germany
Statutory health insurance (GKV) is not required to cover the costs of medically necessary repatriation to Germany. There is a high financial risk involved: An air ambulance flight from abroad (especially from overseas) can quickly cost well over 100,000 euros. Travel health insurance covers these costs when medically necessary.
2. Extremely limited coverage outside Europe
In countries outside the EU/EEA that do not have a social security agreement (e.g., the U.S., Thailand, Canada), statutory health insurance generally does not cover any costs at all. Without supplemental insurance, you will have to pay all medical and hospital bills in non-European countries out of your own pocket.
3. Limited Coverage Within the EU (EHIC)
With the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) on the back of your GKV card, you are entitled to medical treatment in other EU countries in accordance with the rules and rates of the country you are visiting. However, if a local doctor charges private fees or if high copayments are customary in the country you are visiting, you must cover these remaining costs yourself. The GKV can only cover the costs of treatment provided by doctors approved by the public health insurance system. Purely private doctors in tourist areas are not covered.
With the “ExtraPlus” travel health insurance plan from our partner, you’ll be covered and can relax and enjoy your vacation.
