Additional contribution of 3.19 percent from January 2026

The hope that politicians would stabilize the rise in spending on statutory health insurance through consistent action has not been fulfilled.

The average additional contribution for 2026 has been set at 2.9 percent by the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG). However, it is to be expected that the actual average will be significantly higher than 3.0 percent. At its peak, the additional contribution is already 4.4 percent.

The measures discussed so far are far from sufficient to provide any noticeable relief for the strained financial situation of the health insurance funds.

For this reason, almost all health insurance companies, with the exception of BKK EWE, have decided to take legal action against the federal government because the costs of healthcare for citizens receiving welfare benefits are insufficiently financed. We are demanding around €10 billion annually, as the current government payments only cover part of the actual costs, which must therefore be financed through additional contributions.

Unfortunately, we too are unable to escape the above-average increases in expenditure, making it necessary to adjust our additional contribution
.

An adjustment of the additional contribution to 3.19 percent has been set for January 1, 2026. This step is necessary to ensure that we at
can continue to guarantee you first-class health care services.

We will continue to be a health insurance company that puts people first.

Are you an employee or pensioner? Then you usually only pay half of the contribution. The rest is paid by your employer or the statutory pension insurance institution (
). For statutory pensions and company pensions, this additional contribution rate will only apply from March 1, 2026.

Due to the contribution rate adjustment, you have a special right of termination. An overview of the individual additional contribution rates for all health insurance companies
can be found on the homepage of the GKV-Spitzenverband at www.gkv-zusatzbeitraege.de. Here you will also find health insurance companies with a lower
additional contribution. To switch health insurance funds, simply submit a membership application to another health insurance fund by January 31, 2026.
