Students
Student health insurance
For students at state and state-recognized universities, health and long-term care insurance is mandatory. Up to your 25th birthday, as a student you can take out family insurance with your parents free of charge. After that, you must choose your own health insurance. With us, you get full coverage in student health insurance at a reasonable premium.
Family insurance as a student
During your studies, you are generally covered by your parents' family insurance free of charge until you reach the age of 25. The prerequisite for family insurance is that your regular monthly total income does not exceed €565.00, not including BAföG (student loan). For income from a mini-job, the limit is €603.00. Insurance coverage may be extended beyond the age of 25 if you perform certain voluntary services.

Student compulsory insurance
If you are not entitled to family insurance, you are compulsorily insured in the student health and nursing care insurance.
And that is when
- your parents are privately insured or
- you exceed the age limit or one of the above income limits.
Membership begins following family coverage or at the beginning of the semester, but no earlier than the date of enrollment or re-enrollment.
Contributions to compulsory student insurance
- for health insurance €114.65

Exceptional cases for leaving the compulsory student insurance scheme
At the latest at the end of the semester in which you reach the age of 30, you will leave the compulsory student insurance. In exceptional cases, an extension is possible if it can be proven that the studies could not be completed or could only be completed to a limited extent.
Reasons for this may be:
- Type of education, e.g. acquisition of higher education entrance qualification via the second educational pathway
- Family reasons, e.g. care of sick or disabled relatives
- Personal reasons, e.g. illness, birth of a child, military or civilian service during studies
