Special forms of care

Mastering health challenges

When a person needs care, he or she and family members must consider what form of care he or she wants and what is feasible. In addition to standard care, the statutory health insurance system also provides special forms of care.

What are the special forms?

Your health plan may enter into specialty care contracts with a variety of contractors. These are:

Integrated care

Integrated care services are available for a wide range of diseases. Patients are treated in a network. Multiple examinations can thus be avoided. Treatment is improved. In addition to physicians from different specialties, non-physician service providers (e.g., physiotherapists) can also be integrated into integrated care networks.

Family doctor rate

Anyone who undertakes to always visit their family doctor first in the event of health complaints can choose this tariff.

Structured treatment programs

(Disease Management Programs, DMP)

Structured treatment programs sustainably improve medical care for the chronically ill. The programs include regular check-ups, high-quality medical services and training programs. DMPs are available, for example, for diabetes mellitus type 1 or 2, coronary heart disease, bronchial asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or breast cancer.

Special outpatient forms of care

These include, for example, programs such as behavioral training for young people with asthma or programs to prevent heart attacks. Insured persons who participate in these are entitled to a specific elective tariff. This also applies to special forms of outpatient medical care, in which health insurers and physicians provide, for example, specific offerings for a particular clinical picture or for the medical care of a region.

Sickness benefit tariff for self-employed

With this tariff, self-employed persons have the possibility to insure loss of earnings in case of illness. Since the amount of the premiums can vary from insurance company to insurance company and the structure of the tariffs also varies, self-employed persons should inform themselves in detail about the offers of their health insurance company, but also of other health insurance companies.
