IGeL
Individual health services
BKK EWE covers the costs of all medically necessary examinations and treatments that are approved for the statutory health insurance funds. In addition, there are medical services that may not be covered by health insurance. These are known as "individual health services" or "IGeL" for short. If insured persons decide to undergo such a service, a private treatment contract must be concluded with the physician. The medical services provided as a result must be paid for privately. Subsequent reimbursement of the costs by BKK EWE is not possible.
The IGeL Monitor
The IGeL Monitor evaluates the benefits and harms of IGeLs so that patients can make a well-informed decision as to whether they wish to make use of them. In addition, it offers a lot of helpful information about IGeLs in addition to the IGeL ratings.
Best information offer
Behind this service is the Medical Service of the National Association of Health Insurance Funds (MDS). The MDS is financed by the central association of the statutory health insurance (GKV). A study - sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Consumer Protection - has shown that the IGeL Monitor is the most comprehensive and also the best information offering in terms of the evaluation criteria.
