Cryopreservation
Cell or tissue storage
The costs of so-called cryopreservation are covered by BKK EWE if germ cell-damaging treatments (e.g. for cancer) can impair the ability to reproduce. During cryopreservation, eggs, sperm cells or germ cell tissue are frozen. After surviving the disease, artificial insemination can then be performed.
Your entitlement
The benefit entitlement has existed since 1.7.2021 for women until their 40th birthday and for men until their 50th birthday. It is not granted retroactively. If cryopreservation is carried out for reasons other than germ cell-damaging treatment, the costs for this cannot be covered.
