Your image for the electronic health card

To issue the electronic health card, we need a picture of you that clearly identifies you. It clearly and quickly identifies you as the cardholder and prevents misuse by unauthorized third parties if the card is lost.

If you have not yet provided a picture or if you have only recently become insured with BKK EWE, you will automatically receive a letter in which we ask you for a current picture. You can submit your picture by mail or provide it via the upload portal.

Photo upload for new members

If you are a new member of BKK EWE, it may take a few days before you can register with your data. If it is not possible to upload your picture two weeks after receiving the letter from BKK EWE, please contact us.

What must the image look like?

The picture does not have to meet the biometric requirements of a passport photo, but it must be up-to-date. However, to be sure that your picture can be used for the new card without any problems, it should meet the following criteria:

  • Format
    Please refer to the card application enclosed with the letter you receive from us for size information.
  • Quality
    Sharp, clear and contrasty and free from creases and impurities.
  • Background
    Neutral, monochrome and with clear contrast to face and hair.
  • Illumination
    Evenly without reflections, shadows or red eyes.
  • Head position
    Frontal (not in profile).
  • Facial expression
    Neutral with mouth closed and looking at the camera. Eyes open and fully visible, looking straight at the camera.
  • Spectacle wearers
    Lens rim or frame must not cover the eyes. The eyes must be clearly visible (no reflections on the lenses, tinted lenses or sunglasses).
  • Headgear
    Are generally not allowed. Exceptions are permitted, e.g. for religious reasons, in which case the face must be recognizable from chin to forehead, and there must be no shadows on the face (clear identification must therefore not be impaired by headgear).
